Voice Over Internet Protocol
Call Your Customers More Often! Do It Online!
Voice over Internet Protocol (Voice over IP) or VoIP is a family of technologies for the delivery of voice communication over the Internet. Calls are made using a VoIP (digital) telephone or relevant VoIP device; Voice (or sound) is digitized and encoded where after it is transmitted over the Internet as IP packets. On the other end the process is reversed and the original sound is heard. VoIP can be used on any good quality Internet connection such ADSL, 3G, Wireless, etc.
The big advantage of VoIP is cost – currently a call to any landline in South Africa will cost 27c/minute and calls to any cellular service in South Africa 49c/minute. Even more impressive is the fact that international calls to major destinations (UK, USA, Germany, etc.) are also very affordable at R 42c/minute - (Please refer to Switch Telecom’s website for the latest call rates).
VoIP numbers in South Africa typically starts with 087 but you can “port” your old Telkom number to your VoIP provider. If Telkom can no longer provide you a service but you need to keep that number (because you’ve had it for years and all your customers/Family knows it) – no problem. With a little paperwork you’ll be back in business with you old number in no time!
There are a number of devices that can be used to make VoIP calls. Firstly you get Dedicated VoIP phones that connect directly to you wired or wireless network. These are varied from very basic to advanced multi-line digital displays. The portable phones (DECT systems) give you freedom of movement and excellent range. An ATA (or analogue telephone adapter) ensures that you can still use your old analogue handset to make VoIP calls by converting for Internet use via standard telephone plugs.
At Letaba Wireless – supported by Switch Telecom - we can provide you with a whole host of VoIP services. From installing a single VoIP service at a private home to integrating a VoIP Gateway or VoIP services into you existing Analogue Office PABX to installing a new fully functional VoIP PBX with 2 to 200 extensions.
